The second is surviving the bottle.
Nobody spec's a facestock in a vacuum. Bring us the container, the fill, and the shelf environment, and the material picks itself. What follows is the short version of a conversation that usually happens before an RFQ.
White BOPP is the default. It prints small type cleanly, resists tearing at the shoulder of a round bottle, and takes an overlaminate for abrasion when bottles rub together in a case. Clear PET when a see-through gel cap is part of the sell.
A fish oil, an omega blend, a vitamin E softgel puts a slow bleed of oil into the label from the inside of the bottle. Uncoated paper wicks it and the panel goes translucent at month three. A coated film or polyester facestock with an oil-rated adhesive is the answer.
Scoop abrasion, ambient humidity in a warehouse, and repeat handling in a retail store add up. The label wants a durable facestock plus an overlaminate, or a UV coating for a lighter build. Matte laminate for a premium tier reads cleaner under store lighting.
Flex is the enemy. A stand-up pouch bends every time it is picked up. Brittle adhesive chemistry cracks at the crease and lets go in strips. A flex-tolerant adhesive with a conformable facestock holds through the pouch's lifecycle.
Condensation on the shoulder, alcohol on a fingertip when the dropper is refilled, a smaller-diameter cylinder with more curl. A moisture-resistant film and an adhesive rated for the temperature range keeps the label on and readable.
Permanent, removable, repositionable, all-temperature, wash-off for reusable containers, and cryogenic for cold-chain probiotics or biologics. The right one is a match to the container, the fill, and the shelf, not a default.
Most brands pick a bottle first, pick a label size to match, and discover the type-size problem when the Supplement Facts panel comes back from prepress two points too small to be legal. The right sequence is the opposite. Count your dietary ingredients, apply the CFR's type minimums, and let the artwork tell you what shape the bottle can carry.
Six-point type at final inspection has to stay crisp under an overlaminate, hold registration on a flexo press, and not gain weight in the strokes when the color builds shift on reorder. The line for a printer is clean: the language on a supplement label is a decision the brand's regulatory team makes.
